This course will provide a general introduction to the concepts underlying digital technologies applied to health, social and care services. The course will then explore how data-driven solutions are shaping the digital health and care technology landscape. It will then discuss the benefits, performance and challenges of digital technologies and how they can be used to support self-care and empower service users, inform decision-making and reduce the burden on care services. The course will then address digital technologies related to legal, ethical, privacy, data ownership and social issues. Finally, the course will examine various barriers to implementing digital technologies, such as concerns about usability, quality, reliability and security, and financial or infrastructure constraints that may prevent large-scale implementation.
