Meet the BeWell Advisory Board members

Ourania (Rania) Pinaka (MD, PhD) has been a General Practitioner in the Greek National Health System since 2006. She currently serves as the Coordinator of a local Primary Health Care Unit (TOMY) providing care to over 2,000 patients, primarily older adults. Her main professional interests include healthy ageing and the well-being of older populations, fields in which she has participated in several European programs.

She is also deeply engaged in public health, with a particular focus on ensuring equitable access to healthcare for vulnerable groups, especially Roma communities. In this field, she has served as the lead physician in various initiatives and programs aimed at reducing health disparities.

Gavin Clinch is Head of Innovation for Online, Flexible, and Professional Development at ATU, where he leads the Higher Education 4.0 Innovation Theme. His work focuses on innovations in higher education, particularly in the areas of artificial intelligence, micro-credentials, and other sector disruptors. He chairs ATU’s Micro-credential Strategy Task Force and is editor and joint author of its White Paper on AI. From June 2020 to February 2025, Gavin served as President of the Irish Learning Technology Association (ILTA), supporting the advancement of learning technologies across Ireland. He continues to contribute his expertise through roles such as the BeWell Advisory Board.

John Middleton is the President of the Global Network for Academic Public Health (GNAPH), , based in Washington DC. He is Honorary Professor of Public Health at Wolverhampton University, and a Visiting Professor of Public Health at Chester University, and Derby University in the UK.  He was President of the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) from 2019-2022. He has supported the Bewell project on behalf of ASPHER. He was President of the UK Faculty of Public Health, the standard-setting body for public health professionals from 2016-2019. His work has focused on health equity, climate change, environmental health and planetary health, law enforcement and public health, public health workforce strengthening and development, and
developing public health systems responsive to modern global challenges.
